Professional Requirements

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Nursing Supervisor, this position is responsible for proving high quality individualized patient care under the direction for Registered Nurse during endoscopy procedures and direct patient care under the supervisor of a Registered Nurse. May be required to work On-Call during after-hours (11PM-7AM) including weekends and holidays.

  • Performs in-room surgical scrub duties: patient positioning and draping; sterile instrument and supplies set-up; effectively working with surgeon; assisting R.N. with sponge, needle, and instrument counts; and assists with cast/dressing applications.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of care and handling specimens, surgical instruments, supplies and equipment, including flash sterilization.
  • Assists in preparation of surgical procedures by anticipating needs of physician and patient. Prepares operating supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner. Cares for equipment to prolong useful life. Prioritizes and uses time efficiently.
  • Provides a safe, therapeutic environment for patient and families. Uses patient restrains appropriately.
  • Works efficiently with physicians and R.N.’s in the variety of surgical procedures done in the OR, with specialized equipment, trays and instruments.
  • Answers telephone in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name informing appropriate persons.
  • Performs efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations checked below: Infant (x) Pediatric () Adult (x) Geriatric ().
  • Demonstrates good use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Practices universal precautions.


Minimum Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in an acute care preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in OR/OB setting preferred.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • BLS Card
  • Fire Card
  • Central Supply Technician Certificate preferred
  • Certification from an approved Surgery Technician School
  • Salary range is based on years of experience: $31.99 - $35.31 Per Hour
